A very appealing example of this rare Centennial issue $10 gold piece from the Carson City Mint. The surfaces exhibit a light burnt-orange color that intensifies in the crevices framing many of the obverse’s stars. About 10% to 15% of the coin’s original luster remains, giving this attractive piece a reflective glow.

Most of the details on the raised devices are well defined, with some weakness evident in the strands of hair at the top of Ms. Liberty’s head and the curls that hang down the side of her face. The reverse’s design elements are nearly as sharp as you would see on an AU-50 specimen.

Contact marks and tiny scratches scattered across both sides of the coin are an indication of its time spent in commerce. None of the abrasions are severe.

Considering that no 1876-CC eagle have survived in Mint State condition, and knowing the high cost of premium AU quality examples, the piece offered here will admirably fill the slot in a worthwhile set of “CC” $10 gold pieces.
