We estimate that no more than 150 to 175 examples of this scarce-date “CC” half eagle exist in all grades. The population dwindles dramatically as we ascend the condition rating scale. Possibly no more than two Mint State pieces have survived. Even in XF-45, the grade of the coin offered here, the available supply is limited.

This specimen is one of the finest representatives in its grade range. The surfaces display handsome light golden-orange color and have relatively few contact marks. The details on the portrait, eagle, and other raised devices are a textbook example of what the XF-45 is all about. The only weakness worth mentioning is visible in the strands of hair on top of Ms. Liberty’s head.

This coin will fit perfectly in a high-end circulated set of Carson City $5 gold pieces.
