This was the year that the Carson City Mint throttled full steam ahead in its production of half dollars, nearly doubling the output from 1871. The piece offered here is a handsome representative from 1872’s crop. It displays the details of, at a minimum, an XF-45 example. Light reflections of minimal luster race back and forth across its surfaces when it is tilted. The color is a uniform blend of silvery-gray and light tints of mascara-amber.

No more than a few hundred 1872-CC half dollars exist, in all grades. This is a choice circulated example of the date.
