Although the Carson City Mint banged out over 1 million half dollars in 1875, we estimate that no more than 2,000 examples exist today in all grades, probably closer to 1,000 to 1,500 pieces. This statistic doesn’t qualify 1875-CC half dollars as rarities, but collectors know that finding a specimen of this date is not always that easy.

The piece offered here exhibits good eye appeal for the grade. The central areas show typical signs of a coin that spent enough time in circulation to acquire small abrasions and minimal hairlines, but not so much time that resulted in a removal of all of its luster and detail. There’s almost enough life remaining in this coin to elevate it to the AU grade range. Light shades of persimmon and turquoise toning frame the periphery.
