Q. How long have you been in business?

A: We have been coin dealers for 28 years as of 2009. We operated a retail coin shop in Las Vegas called Las Vegas Rare Coin Gallery for 14 years. We opened our Reno store in 2001.

Q. Are you members of major numismatic associations?

A: Yes.  We are members of  Carson City Coin Collectors of  America, PCGS, NGC, ANACS, Lifetime ANA, Numismatic Literary Guild,  ICTA, Coinnet, Eureka Trading, FACTS-CCE, Lifetime CSNS, Lifetime Casino Chip & Gaming Token Collectors Club, Nevada Historical Society, Carson City Historical Society, Reno Chamber of Commerce.

Q. Do you sell certified coins?

A: Yes. Primary grading services - PCGS & NGC.

Q. What kinds of coins do you offer?

A: U.S. coins with collector value. Primarily coins dated before 1960. We specialize in U.S. coins from the 19th Century, with a focus on coins from the Carson City Mint. We also offer a large inventory of coins from the prominent series of the early half of the 20th Century, such as, Lincoln Cents, Buffalo Nickels, Mercury Dimes, Standing Liberty Quarters, and Walking Liberty Half Dollars.

Q. Do you offer a Want List service?

A: Yes, we have searched for, and provided many key coins for our customers through the years. If you tell us that you want a 1916 Standing Liberty Quarter in Very Fine condition, or in MS-67 Full Head, we will use all means available to locate just the right specimen for you. Chances are, if the coin you want is known to the coin collecting community, we will be able to obtain it for you. (That is, if it's obtainable, of course.)

Q. What forms of payment do you accept?

A: Personal checks or cashiers checks, (must clear, until you become a regular customer). We also accept VISA, MC, DISCOVER. Bank wires are acceptable, too.

Q. What are your shipping charges?

A: We use USPS Express Mail and USPS Registered-Insured U.S. mail. The charges vary, depending on how swiftly the order is shipped (Exress, Priority, etc.), and the insurance value. In some instances, shipping is free.

Q. What is Southgate Coins' return privilege?

A: You will have five (5) days from the time you receive an item to send it back (not necessarily for it to arrive at Southgate Coins, but simply for you to get it mailed back to us) if you are not completely satisfied. Length of times for return privileges may vary depending on items purchased. Please ask if you are concerned. Return privileges do not apply to gold and silver bullion items, which are non-returnable.

Q. Does Southgate Coins offer consultation regarding building coin collections and the coin selection process?

A: Yes. Our staff is dedicated to helping the collector get the most out the collecting experience. We are more than happy to share our years of knowledge and expertise with you. If the situation warrants, we may refer you to someone in your area, or provide the phone number of an organization who may be able to assist you.

Q. Does Southgate Coins deal in Carson City coins?

A: Yes. In fact, Southgate Coins is the leading dealer of Carson City coins in the country. The owner, Rusty Goe, is recognized as one of the prominent authorities on the Carson City Mint and Carson City coins.

Q. How can I get an appraisal on my coin collection, and possibly sell it to Southgate Coins?

A-1: Our staff will guide you through the process when you call. Generally, customers send their collections Registered/Insured through the U.S. Post Office. In some cases, collections are shipped Fed-Ex, using Southgate Coins' account number and insurance (Lloyds of London.)

A-2: After your collection is appraised, you will be notified of the value, and be given an offer. If you accept the offer, a company check (cashiers if you request) will be sent to you. Bank wires are also available. If you choose not to accept our offer, your collection will be promptly shipped back to you, via Reg./Ins. mail or Fed-Ex, if you request. If the collection warrants, and you request, our coin expert/appraiser can meet with you at your home or bank. More details can be provided when you call.
