This is an attractive example of one of the scarcest dates in the “CC” $10 gold piece series. The color is light golden-orange. About 40% to 50% of the luster remains. The details on all the raised devices are sharp, even on the typically weak eagle’s breast and in the hair strands on top of Ms. Liberty’s head. The surfaces are peppered with numerous, small contact marks, none of which are detracting. Light purple-carbon toning is visible around stars 1 through 3 on the obverse. Heavy doubling is visible beneath all letters in TEN D. on the reverse.
This piece ranks in the top ten in the condition census for this date. So far, no Mint State examples have been discovered.
