Mintage: 9,925

This AU graded “CC” gold eagle is charming, with light-wheat-yellow coloring, and luster that peeks through the light surface haze. On Ms. Liberty’s neck there are diagnostic, raised diagonal lines. All examples of this date from the Carson City Mint have them. These marks are similar to the ones seen on some examples of 1878-CC quarters. They suggest that the obverse die used to strike these pieces was semi-canceled. The reverse displays a trifling of chatter marks in the field surrounding the eagle, but no more than you’d expect for the grade level.
