This example of this scarcer-date Carson City $5 gold piece displays ample luster for the grade. The reflective glow is especially evident around the peripheries on each side. The strike is bold on most of the raised devices. Wear from limited circulation caused light weakness on the crown of Ms. Liberty’s head and on the eagle’s breast feathers. Small contact marks and thin hairlines are scattered on both sides, but none of them detract from the coin’s visual appeal. Two, maroon-colored copper spots are visible directly below Ms. Liberty’s portrait, just above the 8 and 7 in the date.
Overall, this is a very pleasing specimen from a relatively low-mintage run of 21,198 pieces.
