If you held this coin at arm’s length, you would have no idea what grade NGC gave it, and possibly not know what metal composed it. But, that’s not a bad thing. The obverse of this MS-62 Above Bow dime from the Carson Mint is so toned with dark, brownish-grey patina that it almost appears to be struck in copper and not silver. Circling the periphery and encasing the figure of Liberty seated, there are electric and cobalt blues which intertwine with the inner russet coloring. On the reverse, you find the more steel-grey color, with luster that is masked by smoky toning around all the devices. Contact marks on both sides are minimal for the grade, and barely detectable with the naked eye, due to the coloring. Overall, this master-of-illusion coin is abundant with charisma.
