This is a coin many dealers and collectors would be tempted to dip, because underlying the thin, original beige-gray surface haze is enough luster to boost it to the AU level. All of the raised devices display details required for an AU condition rating, and the absence of unsightly abrasions adds to this example’s eye appeal.

A small dark spot is visible in the upper right field area on the obverse, and some auburn-colored speckling is seen in different locations on the reverse.

Mechanical doubling is visible on some of the obverse stars and some of the reverse’s peripheral letters. A thin die scratch links the back of Ms. Liberty’s head with Star 8.
