This example shows a 9 punched over an 8 in the last digit of the date. Stars No. 2 and 4 have been recut, and a horizontal die scratch runs through the base of the letter Y in LIBERTY in the coronet. While the overdate is a dramatic diagnostic, this variety is not considered scarce to Large Cent collectors.

The piece offered here displays exquisite coppery-orange-brown color. The surfaces are remarkably original and radiate a soothing level of luster. Only a small number of trivial contact marks are visible on either side.
