Barber Dimes
Following the Seated Liberty design for dimes, Charles E. Barber, a chief engraver at the United States Mint, created the Liberty Head (commonly called “Barber”) design for dimes, quarters, and half dollars. The Barber dime series ran from 1892 through 1916.
The obverse design features the right-facing bust of a Roman-looking Ms. Liberty, encircled by our country’s name, with the date at the lower periphery. The reverse displays a very similar wreath to the Liberty Seated design.
The rarest date in the series is the world-famous 1894-S, of which only eleven or twelve examples are known to exist.
