Franklin Halves
Benjamin Franklin was a prominent politician, inventor, scientist, and founding father of the United States of America. The U.S. Mint began striking half dollars honoring this great man in 1948, with the series ending abruptly in 1963.
Representing a switch from images depicting various versions of Ms. Liberty, the Franklin half dollar displayed a profile of Benjamin Franklin, with the motto IN GOD WE TRUST at the bottom periphery, and the word LIBERTY at the top.
The reverse features the iconic Liberty Bell, crack and all. To the left of the bell is E PLURIBUS UNUM, and to the right is a mini-eagle. The country’s name is at the top edge, with the denomination at the bottom.
Examples of this series with the Full Bell Lines (FBL) designation are priced at significantly higher premiums than their more weakly struck counterparts.
