This is a flashy Standing Liberty quarter, housed in an “Old Green” PCGS holder. Sometimes, when you look at coins in these older holders, you’re surprised that they didn’t grade higher, but you’d be basing that on today’s grading standards. This beauty is a prime example of conservative grading. On the obverse, Ms. Liberty stands in full glory, with incredibly sharp detail on her blouse and the brick walls on either side of her. Most of the detail is there on her head, with the ear hole and three leaves visible. But it’s not quite sharp enough for a Full Head designation. Both sides are totally white and the reverse is superb. There is, however, a tiny carbon spot between the A and the R in DOLLAR. Another more interesting characteristic is found between the E and the R in QUARTER, where you’ll see a ¼ diagonal lint mark. This indicates that a particle of something was adhered to the planchet or the die during the striking of the coin and left an impression. If you’re into interesting diagnostics on Standing Libs, this one’s for you!
