Maya’s Three-Year Anniversary at Southgate Coins – March 7, 2010 |
|
By Marie and Rusty Goe
When Maya joined us three years ago, she was a young girl who worked hard to learn the basics. I noticed at the end of her shift that she was never a clock-watcher. If she had something to finish she didn’t consider the shift over until she had completed the job, and she holds that trait to this day.

A Must-Read Article in The Numistmatist!
The March 2010 issue of The Numismatist is hot off the press, and Southgate Coins’ very own Rusty Goe contributed an outstanding article about the esteemed Eliasberg collection. The article is a great read for any Carson City coin enthusiast wanting to know some history about the collection. It even offers a price comparison for coin values in 1982 and 2009.
If you subscribe to The Numismatist, make sure to get out your March 2010 issue and flip to Rusty Goe’s article, Eliasberg #1 Revisited on page 44! You won’t want to miss this front-cover article. |

Rusty and Marie Lose Second of two Yorkie Pups Since last October – February 1, 2010 |
|
By Rusty Goe
On Sunday evening January 31, 2010, at 9:45, Mikey, Marie's and my beloved Teacup Yorkshire Terrier, died of heart failure while he choked on a piece of food. Mikey’s brother, Sonny, died four months earlier (in October 2009) after other dogs attacked him at a pet care center in Reno. Mikey and Sonny were born on March 25, 1999 in Las Vegas, NV. The deaths of these two Yorkie brothers have understandably brought much grief to Marie and me.

Nicole’s One-Year Anniversary at Southgate Coins – December 29, 2009 |
|
I (Marie) was out of the office when Nicole came in for her first interview at Southgate Coins, but both Rusty and Maya told me how impressed they were with her. It became evident to me on Nicole’s first day at work that she was serious about the job and was giving an all-out effort to learn her basic responsibilities. I could see that she was smart and that she tried to catch on quickly to everything we taught her.

Southgate Coins Hosts a Festive Christmas Gift Exchange and Dinner – 12-19-09 |
|
After weeks of planning and scheming, the date of the Southgate Coins company Christmas gift exchange and dinner finally arrived. The long-term staff girls, Maya, Crystal, Cara and me (Nicole) all decided to do a “Secret Santa” gift exchange for each other. Unfortunately, with only four of us, the other three girls figured out who picked who very quickly, and I was the only one who ended up not knowing who picked me! Eventually, I was informed that I was the odd-duck out, and was told who the now NOT-“top-secret” Santas were. Luckily, I was fully informed about all the other Southgate Christmas activities, and was very excited to participate.

A Very Heart-Warming (and Cold-Nosed) Bosses Day - 10-16-2009 |
|
If you didn't know, today is National Bosses Day. Traditionally, the Southgate crew honors their two bosses, Rusty and Marie Goe, with anything from a real Free Lunch Friday (our treat), to a nice card and warm wishes. We always try to make that extra little effort to let them know that even though work can be tough, we know that we’re appreciated here. And we want to reciprocate that appreciation on any occasion (and for any reason) we can.

The Goes’ Precious Yorkie Sonny Dies – 10-1-2009 |
|
All Dogs Go to Heaven – Especially Sonny Goe
By Maya Roberts
In the lives of a business owner, your whole life seems to revolve around the workday. You pay the bills, you run the errands, and you coordinate your entire home life right from your work desk. The struggle of making everything fall into place seems to become a way of life, and you do the best you can to separate your private life from public face. In all the mess, you try to create your own workable environment.
As Southgate employees, we understand this constant balance between home and work, and we strive to make life for the Goes as easy as possible. Sometimes our small efforts at protecting them just can’t seem to go far enough.
Today (October 1, 2009), Rusty and Marie Goe were shaken when the life of their beloved Yorkshire terrier, Sonny, was brutally stripped from them.
The Goes are currently undergoing a kitchen renovation at their home, and in an effort to make everyone’s life easier, they opted to take two of their dogs, Sonny and Lillie, to a local dog daycare, to avoid the trauma of construction workers intruding on their home. (Mikey, their other, older, tiny dog, would be coming down to the store each day, since he needs a little special care.)
Business was going as usual today, until around 11:20. The store received a call from the dog daycare center, and we received the shocking news: Sonny got attacked and killed.
If you have pets, you understand that they’re not just animals they’re family.
