Every year at Southgate Coins, we have a whole day dedicated to the Kentucky Derby. It’s a fun filled event that has everything: a little food, a little bit of hat wearing (in true Kentucky Derby fashion), a little horse watching, and even a little betting. Truly an event that’s hard not to eagerly anticipate. Click the link below to read Nicole's and Cara’s thoughts on waiting for their first Kentucky Derby Day at Southgate Coins. They echo my sentiments as well.

As you all know, Friday the 13th is supposed to be an unlucky day, on which bad things happen. Evidence of that is all the scary movies that have debuted on this notorious day. But, even though Jason might be exacting his revenge on innocents at Camp Crystal Lake, everybody at Southgate Coins is hardly feeling the effects of superstitious curses. Hear Ye! Hear Ye! - A New Proclamation in the Realm of the Coin Wizard
The other day, I (Maya) received an oblong, awkward-looking package here at the store, via our local UPS driver. I wasn’t sure whether I should refuse the delivery, because to my knowledge we weren’t expecting it, and it looked like it had just barely held together during its trip to get here. But, after seeing who it was from, and getting the “okay” from Marie to accept it, we all had a little laugh when we found out what it was. Read on for more...

One of those passions, of course, is all history related to the life and times of the Carson City Mint. Just last April, Rusty presented a lecture at the Carson City Historical Society on the different types of entertainment available to Carsonites back when the Carson City Mint was operating. Little did he know, that his studies on the topic would lead him down a different path nearly nine months later. Read on for more...
