Rusty's Return from Baltimore

Every year around this time there is a one place where all the bigwig (and not so bigwig) numismatists seem to flock: the ANA World’s Fair of Money. They hold it in a different city every year, and this year all the energy focused on Baltimore, Maryland. As with all such big events that in any way involve us here at the store, it would only seem fitting to write a weblog about it! Read on to find out more…

Chronicling Entry-Deadline Day

Well, in case you’d like to know, Friday, July 25, was a fairly exciting day for the workers at Southgate Coins. Much of it resulted from the last-minute rush of kids and parents stopping by, emailing, and in any other manner, attempting to beat the entry deadline. Read on to learn more…

Southgate's Animals

Well, aside from all the celebrating we did this May, I decided that a non-celebratory weblog should also be posted.  I got together with the girls of Southgate, and decided that today’s weblog should be about the little dearies in our lives: our pets. Please keep reading to learn about our best non-human friends...

2008 Kentucky Derby

Last Saturday, May 3, Southgate Coins turned into horse racing central, as Churchill Downs Race Track was buzzing with anticipation about which horse would capture the 2008 Kentucky Derby. We spent the entire day with the televisions on and the surround-sound turned up, with high hopes of having our favorite horses placing in the top ranks and hopefully even winning the big Kentucky Derby title. Here’s Maya to report on all the excitement:

Rusty's Carson City History Lesson

“Reflections of Carson City Entertainment and Recreation During the Carson Mint’s Glory Years”

Lecture at the Carson City Library

Last night Rusty and I traveled down to Carson City to host a lecture for the Carson City Historical Society’s monthly lecture series. Rusty’s PowerPoint presentation was focused not on “CC” coins this time (gasp!) but rather on the different types of entertainment and recreation that the people of Carson City enjoyed during the 1870s and 1880s. And boy did those guys like to have fun back then! Rusty even commented that he could have presented two lectures on this topic, one focused on indoor entertainment and one on outdoor entertainment.

April 24, 2008 - Earthquakes!

Rockin-and-Rollin in Earthquake Country

Over the past few weeks the Northern Nevada area has been feeling the ground beneath us shake with excitement. Although, today was the day that the magnitudes have been something to write home about (or at least write a weblog about).

Good thing Rusty had us update our emergency kit last month!

Until Next Time,

Amy

Lillie Joins the Crew

We have Tilley, Willey, and now Lillie!

For all of you pet lovers out there – this weblog is for you.

As some of you might recall, back in May of 2006, Rusty and Marie lost their 3/4 Yorkshire Terrier, 1/4 Poodle dog to heart failure. Gracie was a very beloved dog by all and her absence is still in the front of our minds. She was born on Easter Sunday in 1994 and was properly named “Grace” due to the holiday. Marie and Rusty have two other Yorkies named Mikey and Sonny. And since Gracie left their lives, the boys have been missing their third partner-in-crime.
