In photographing this impressive 1876-CC half dollar graded AU-55 by PCGS, we had hoped the camera would capture the luster radiating from its surfaces. The camera didn’t cooperate. Also, the camera chose to convey this coin as having tints of shading that it does not have.

In any event, the images rendered here depict essential positive aspects like the bold definition on this piece’s raised devices, and its minimally abraded surfaces. Some light flecks of amber-auburn coloring speckle certain areas around the obverse’s lower periphery. Thin hairlines spread in random directions across portions of the obverse’s fields. A past carefully performed cleaning removed a tiny percent of the top surface-luster on both sides.

On the reverse raised diecrack lines snake between and through the peripheral lettering.

This desirable specimen will fit well in a slot in ten-piece “CC” coin type set or a collection of “CC” half dollars. Variety lovers will enjoy examining the diagnostics visible. It is a wonderfully preserved memento from the Carson City Mint’s most productive output year.
