You could search for years and still not find an 1884-CC Morgan silver dollar in the MS-66 grade range that equals the eye appeal of the specimen offered here. This date is the most common one in the Carson City Morgan silver dollar series. Hundreds of thousands of 1884-CC silver dollars are scattered everywhere. This date is also known for the splendid workmanship seen on surviving specimens. The strikes on 1884-CC silver dollars are as bold as those seen on practically all other dates in the Morgan dollar series. Luster on the specimens typically glows with radiance. Untoned pieces generally display snow-white frosty surfaces. The only thing that separates the most desirable examples from the average to mediocre pieces is the prevalence of or lack of contact marks.

The specimen offered here displays eye appeal just shy of the MS-67 level. In fact, there are MS-67 1884-CC silver dollars that are inferior to this piece in terms of eye appeal. The obverse on this example radiates brilliant flashiness. Lady Liberty’s face (and especially her cheek) are practically blemish free. The fields are remarkably clean as well. Tiny pinprick-like ticks are barely visible in places. An extremely small amount of translucent haze whiffs across the lower left obverse fields. A slight tint of auburn patina rings the upper left rim.

Flipping the coin over to the reverse reveals more of the near-perfection seen on the obverse. Minimal tiny ticks are scattered across the fields, none of which are noticeable. All of the raised devices are as sharply struck as 19th century technology was capable of producing. The eagle stands majestically bold at the center, with every feather displayed with precision. A small goldfish-like-colored blush sweeps delicately across the lower center reverse area around DOL in DOLLAR right below the coveted “CC” mintmark.

This exquisite silver dollar delivers all the pizazz a collector could desire, short of spending considerably more money.
