Year Ending

My oh my how time flies! How can it already be time to take down the holiday décor and start making our lists of New Year’s resolutions? It is amazing how one year just passes by with a blink of an eye. I remember it just yesterday when I was reading the weblog that Marie wrote this time last year…how can this be?

Tis the Season

The Southgate Christmas Party

Hi, I’m Rachel! I was briefly introduced in the last weblog, but this is my first time starting one off. Now, as many of you know, here at Southgate Coins, we celebrate the holiday season not only with our individual families, but with our collective “Southgate family” as well. It was this past Saturday, December 22, that we held this said celebration, which included gift-giving and a fancy Christmas dinner at one of our favorite places. The day started off normal enough, as we were busy with customers and then pulled the closed signs at the turn of three o’clock.

Christmas comes early

This time of year brings together two of my favorite things—good friends and presents!

Along with trimming the tree, helping the holiday crowds find those perfect numismatic gifts, and trying not to slip on the icy sidewalks, comes a time to celebrate with our favorite customers that have become even better friends, and a chance to open and share in thoughtful holiday gifts.

Mirror Mirror On The Wall

A Magical Affair

Well, well, here at the store we are definitely in the holiday swing. To help celebrate this wonderful time of year, Marie had us stay late this past Saturday and work hard at scrubbing the floors, Cinderella-style. No, just kidding—Marie’s not that mean! We did do a little bit of clean-up around the store to make it look spiffy for the holidays, but it was definitely worth it for the events to come later on in the day.

Reno Book Signing

History for the Holidays

Last Saturday, the Nevada Historical Society located on the University of Nevada-Reno campus, hosted a day long event dedicated to “History for the Holidays,” which brought together local artists, authors, and musicians. The event boasted an art sale, free raffle prizes, seasonal music, crafts, and of course our favorite, a book signing room.

It's Holiday Time

It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas

Stores all across America are busily preparing for the Christmas shopping season by decorating their shops with tinsel and overstocking the shelves. Last Saturday the crew at Southgate joined in on this action, and spent the majority of the day hanging ornaments and processing back-up inventory. Our store has once again transformed into a beautiful winter wonderland complete with a lighted Christmas tree. We invite you in to share in the season with us. We are holding regular business during the season, so feel free to drop in anytime.

An All Hallow's Eve Fright Fest—A Modern Day Tale

I don't know if it is the crisp fall air, or neighbors coming together, or dressing-up, or the great chance of getting a cavity, or maybe a concoction of it all, but to me, Halloween is king. There is nothing more magical than this frightful day filled with sweet treats, spooky tricks, and...numismatics?

A Birthday to Remember

This past Friday was such a celebration—it was Marie’s birthday!

Now, for all of our parties here at the store, we always have to have some preparation before the actual surprise.  For Marie’s birthday, Amy and Rusty stayed a whole hour extra after Marie left at closing just so they could set up the banners and put little birthday hats on all of our holiday scarecrows. They made sure there were streamers decorating her desk, and that everything was in place for the events to come the following day.

A Presidential Affair

It is not too often that a political celebrity makes his or her way to our neck of the woods. However, being located only a block away from the Reno Convention Center, it seems that when celebrities like this do come to town to speak at the convention center, our lives at the shop are greatly affected. Take for instance when the Commander in Chief of the United States comes to town.

Facelift Complete – But I Don’t Look a Day Younger

Over the past two-and-a-half months our shopping center’s new property managers have hosted a string of “facelift” construction projects on the outside buildings of the entire shopping center. The goal was to “update” the look of our center and splash some new paint on the walls.

The Answer To The Age Old Question
